Garden Clubs
California Garden Clubs, Inc. is the statewide federation
of garden clubs and plant societies. It is the largest nonprofit
volunteer gardening organization in the state of California.
An affiliation of over 250 garden clubs and plant societies
throughout the state, CGCI represents more than 19,000 members.
CGCI is devoted to the development of all phases of gardening,
the betterment and beautification of the community, and the
protection and conservation of our natural resources.

The California Horticultural Society, located
in San Francisco, holds programs, has on online bulletin,
and features a very good list of gardening links.
The
California Native Plant Society
The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is a statewide
nonprofit organization of amateurs and professionals with
a common interest in California's native plants. The Society,
working through its local chapters, seeks to increase understanding
of California's native flora and to preserve this rich resource
for future generations.

This site lets you search for California wildflowers by common

provides a resource for further research on the various species.
Conservatory
of Flowers
The Conservatory of Flowers, prominently situated near the
eastern end of Golden Gate Park, is a spectacular living museum
of rare and beautiful tropical plants including palms, orchids,
bromeliads, carnivorous plants, and many, many more. This
Web site has photos, history, an inside the museum plan, and
a featured plant link.

Forum of Marin
The Environmental Forum of Marin is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to preserving the quality of our environment through
education.
Filoli
A property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation,
Filoli is a 654 acre estate in Woodside, 30 miles south of
San Francisco. It is a rare, historically important example
of an early 1900's country estate with magnificent gardens
and where hundreds of rare flowers, plants, and trees flourish.
The
Flora Project
The Flora Project at the Jepson Herbarium at UC Berkeley.
One of the main features is the online version, through the
UC Berkeley Digital Library Project, of Willis Lynn Jepson's
The Flora of California, a multi-volume series beginning in
1909 and continuing steadily through 1940. The online interchange
for California floristics provides the latest information
on identification, taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution, ecology,
relationships, and diversity of California vascular plants.
Marin
Agricultural Land Trust (MALT)
Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) was the first land trust
in the United States to focus on farmland preservation. Founded
in 1980 by a coalition of ranchers and environmentalists to
preserve farmland in Marin County, MALT has so far permanently
protected 32,000 acres of land on 47 family farms and ranches.
The
Marin Art and Garden Center
The Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross supports and encourages
art, horticulture and conservation. They have an environmental
education program, a library, and several rooms available
for special events. The Marin Garden Club, the Garden Society
of Marin, and the Marin Society of Artists are founding groups
of the MAGC. The Ross Valley Players has been performing in
the Center's historic barn since the 1940's.

Chapter of the California Native Plant Society
The Marin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society has
a wealth of information on native flora, local organization
information, great hikes scheduled for native plant viewing,
and information on getting involved.
Marin
Master Gardeners
The Marin Master Gardeners is a dedicated, trained group of
volunteers with a shared love of gardening and horticulture.
Through community service and educational outreach they provide
home gardeners and community organizations the knowledge and
skills to create a healthy environment for Marin County. The
Statewide
Master Gardeners is organized by the University
of California Cooperative Extension and has the purpose of
providing advice to the California home gardener.
Marin
Rose Society
The goals of the Marin Rose Society, a chapter of the The
American Rose Society, are to promote the culture, interest
and appreciation of roses of all kinds and to educate gardeners
of Marin County on rose nomenclature, rose types (classifications)
and their uses, propagation, maintenance, and exhibiting techniques.
They are affiliated with the Marin Art and Garden Center,
and are working on an exciting rose garden there, where they
will host pruning demonstrations and educational programs.

Francisco Botanical Garden
The mission of the San Francisco Botanical Garden is to
create, sustain, and interpret a distinct, documented collection
of Mediterranean, mild temperate and tropical cloud-forest
displayed in designed gardens and habitats, and to provide
a place of exceptional beauty and natural sanctuary.
University
of California Botanical Garden
The
University of California Botanical Garden is a living museum
open to the public featuring one of the most diverse plant
collections in the United States. Established in 1890, the
Garden's 34 acres contain over 12,000 taxa and more than 20,000
accessions from all over the world arranged by region.
